Fan follows Gaurav Chandna, a young man from Delhi whose life revolves around Bollywood star Aryan Khanna. Gaurav runs a small internet cafe, copies Aryan’s looks and moves, and dreams of meeting him on the star’s birthday. When Aryan rejects him after Gaurav attacks a rival actor in his name, admiration turns into revenge. The story moves from Delhi and Mumbai to London and Croatia, and it shifts from playful fan comedy into a dark chase thriller.
Shah Rukh Khan plays both men, so the film becomes a mirror of the star’s public image and his older dangerous roles. The main theme is the danger of treating a celebrity like a god and believing love gives a person a right to control someone else. Gaurav uses fake videos, disguises, public stunts, and violence to force Aryan to say sorry, while Aryan answers with police power and his own pride. The ending leaves Aryan shaken and more respectful of the crowd, but it treats obsession as destructive rather than noble.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Fan.

Not present. The main roles are Indian characters in an Indian film, which fits the setting. The supporting women have small story roles, and the film does not make representation part of its message.

Woke political dialogue
Not present. The spoken conflict concerns fame, fan entitlement, apology, and revenge. The film has no clear modern identity, DEI, or activist message in its dialogue.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story follows an obsessive fan and a movie star. It does not build its main conflict around race, gender, sexuality, or identity politics.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows police power, celebrity wealth, and public pressure. It does not turn those events into a modern activist attack on Western institutions or traditional social norms.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film uses fictional characters rather than established franchise roles or real historical figures. It does not make a race, gender, sexuality, or hero-role swap.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public complaints centered on the plot, the long second half, and the missing “Jabra Fan” song. No sustained anti-woke complaint or boycott appears in the reviewed coverage, and the supplied X pass found none.

Creator track record context
Maneesh Sharma and Habib Faisal have a record of socially liberal stories about women and social limits. Aditya Chopra has backed some women-centered and social-prejudice films. Padam Bhushan has little public political record. This gives moderate background context, but Fan itself focuses on fame and obsession rather than identity activism.
