Johnny English Strikes Again

Johnny English is a proud but hopelessly clumsy former MI7 agent who now teaches geography at a small school. When a cyberattack reveals every active British spy, the Prime Minister pulls him back into service because he is the only agent left whose identity was not exposed. Johnny and his loyal helper Bough travel from London to France and Scotland to stop tech billionaire Jason Volta from taking control of the internet. The movie uses broad slapstick, old spy gadgets, car chases, and jokes about an older man who cannot handle modern technology.

The clearest identity-related point is a short joke about gender roles. Johnny doubts that Bough’s wife could be a Navy officer and guesses that she must be a cook, while the film shows that she is a submarine captain. A woman serves as Prime Minister, and a skilled Russian spy helps stop the villain, but the story does not build its plot around their identities. The film briefly makes Johnny’s old-fashioned view of women look foolish, while its main message stays focused on old spy habits, personal courage, and the clash between analog tools and digital systems.
