Ryder leads the PAW Patrol pups from Adventure Bay into Adventure City after Mayor Humdinger wins a crooked election and causes dangerous chaos. The team must stop bad fireworks, runaway trains, a storm, and the mayor’s plan to control the weather. Chase struggles because the city brings back memories of being alone as a young pup. The bright 88-minute adventure uses jokes, gadgets, rescues, and a gentle lesson about courage.
The film gives visible space to Liberty, a bold girl pup who joins the team, and Dr. Kendra Wilson, a black female scientist whose warning about the Cloud Catcher proves correct. Those roles add a light representation signal, but the story does not center on race, gender, or identity politics. The main lesson says that fear is normal and that friends can help someone face it. The movie also favors teamwork, public rescue work, and science over Humdinger’s selfish showmanship, while its mayor jokes remain simple children’s satire.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for PAW Patrol: The Movie.
Woke representation / casting
The film gives visible roles to Liberty, an outspoken girl pup, and Dr. Kendra Wilson, a black female scientist. Kendra is the expert who built the Cloud Catcher, and Liberty becomes part of the main rescue team. Those choices put a girl hero and a black female expert in important helpful roles. Marsai Martin linked Liberty to showing young black girls that they can do anything, which adds a clear representation signal.
32%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The film includes a crooked election and a selfish mayor, but it has no woke political dialogue about identity, activism, or current left-right issues.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Liberty and Kendra are capable characters, but the story does not make race, gender, or identity politics its main theme.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film mocks one corrupt mayor and his bad choices, but it does not attack Western culture, family life, Christianity, or normal social roles.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film adds Liberty and Chase’s childhood history for this movie’s plot, but it does not make an identity-based change to a known character or real person.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A few small X accounts later said the franchise had gone woke and complained that female pups looked “butch.” Other low-reach posts treated a black scientist or diverse casting as agenda-driven. Those posts had almost no engagement and did not create a sustained campaign against the 2021 film. Larger PAW Patrol “went woke” noise concerned other entries, so it does not raise this film’s score.
12%
Creator track record context
The stored notes describe the writers as mainstream family-animation professionals with no clear activist or DEI record. The casting directors are described as professional voice-casting specialists without a representation agenda. One producer has a modest social-impact link through Participant Media, but the other stored producer notes show no identity-politics record. This gives the title only a weak creator track record signal.
