Mack Mallard is a nervous dad duck who wants his family to stay safe at their small New England pond. His wife Pam and their kids want more. After other ducks stop by with stories about Jamaica, the family sets out on a big trip. They get lost, fly through New York City, and face storms, tough city birds, and a mean human chef. The tone is bright, silly, and warm, like a family road-trip cartoon.
The story is about leaving your safe spot, dealing with fear, and sticking with your family. Pam pushes for adventure and Mack learns to trust more, but the film treats both parents as caring, not as a lecture about who should lead. Side characters include a Jamaican macaw and a tough pigeon boss, and the voice cast has well-known stars from different backgrounds, but the plot is not about race, gender politics, or activist causes. Viewers mostly get ducks, jokes, and a holiday-friendly adventure. Many parents online said it felt like plain family fun.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Migration.
Woke representation / casting
The voice cast has stars from different backgrounds (Nanjiani as dad Mack, Key as Jamaican macaw Delroy, Awkwafina as pigeon boss Chump). These are animal roles, not human race or gender swaps of classic characters. Delroy’s Jamaican voice matches a bird from Jamaica. The movie was not sold as a diversity showcase, so the signal stays light and mostly background.
10%
Woke political dialogue
Talk centers on fear, travel, family fights, and teamwork. Creator interviews and plot summaries do not show social-justice speeches or identity slogans kids would notice as politics.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The heart of the story is a careful dad, a bold mom, and kids learning the wider world. Themes are comfort zones, courage, and family bonds. That is normal kids-movie life stuff, not race, gender, or queer identity arcs.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The chef and duck farm play as classic cartoon bad-guy danger from a bird’s point of view. That is not a modern lesson against capitalism, “the West,” church, or traditional family. Renner said both parents have fair views and must find balance.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. This is an original duck story, not a remake that rewrites old heroes or real history for identity reasons.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
No clear wave of right-leaning or anti-woke attacks saying the film pushes DEI or identity politics. More common posts thank it for staying out of politics and focusing on family fun.
0%
Creator track record context
Cached scores are near zero for Renner, Homsy, Meledandri, and Poirel. Writer Mike White scores 19 and is openly gay, but he has also spoken against identity-politics walls in storytelling, and his work here is framed as family adventure, not activism.
