SpongeBob SquarePants lives in Bikini Bottom, where he cooks at the Krusty Krab and cares deeply for his pet snail, Gary. When King Poseidon takes Gary to use his slime as a beauty product, SpongeBob and Patrick leave home to bring him back. Their trip takes them through strange places, including a lost city, a desert, and a ghostly western world. The movie uses bright 3D animation, songs, wild jokes, and a warm friendship story.
The story says that friendship can give a small person courage when fear takes over. SpongeBob and Patrick keep helping each other even when the trip becomes dangerous and confusing. The other residents of Bikini Bottom later show how SpongeBob's kindness has touched their lives. The movie stays focused on loyalty, bravery, silly adventure, and care for a pet.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main characters are a sponge, starfish, snail, crab, and other sea animals. Sandy is an established squirrel scientist, but the film does not frame her or its voice cast as a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue follows the rescue mission, jokes, songs, and friendship. The characters do not argue about modern political parties, identity rights, or activist causes.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story centers on friendship, courage, and caring for a pet. It does not build its message around race, sex, gender, sexuality, or group identity.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. King Poseidon acts like a vain ruler and Mr. Krabs loves money, but those traits create cartoon obstacles. The film does not turn them into a modern activist argument about Western institutions, gender roles, Christianity, or capitalism.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film shows SpongeBob and his friends as children at camp and uses King Poseidon in the rescue plot. Those are ordinary franchise changes and are not tied to identity or DEI messaging.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The separate X research found no anti-woke reaction or complaint campaign. Web and fan complaints focused on animation, plot quality, the Kamp Koral tie-in, and canon issues.
0%
Creator track record context
The cached scores for the listed creators, writers, producers, and casting directors run from 0 to 11/100. Stephen Hillenburg described SpongeBob and Patrick as almost asexual, but that statement does not show a political or DEI agenda for this movie. The other listed people are mainly known for family comedy and animation.
