Chloe moves with her mother into a large house in the town of Tenderville. She finds a green gem and unknowingly opens a portal to a world filled with hungry Troggs. The garden gnomes explain that the gem protected their world. Chloe must choose between joining the popular girls at school and helping her new friends stop the monsters. The movie is a light family adventure with some scary creature scenes.
The story focuses on friendship, popularity, and taking responsibility for mistakes. Chloe first rejects Liam because she wants to fit in with Brittany’s group. She later risks herself to rescue Liam and protect the town. The movie presents popularity and materialism as poor goals, but it does not build these ideas into modern identity politics or activist messaging. Its main message is that loyal friends matter more than social status.
