Ferruccio Lamborghini returns to postwar Italy after serving in World War II. He uses his skills as a mechanic to build cheaper tractors and later starts a luxury car company. His anger at Enzo Ferrari turns a personal insult into a fierce business rivalry. The film has a serious, glossy tone, with romance, grief, family pain, and dramatic car scenes.
Ferruccio's drive brings money and fame, but it also hurts the people closest to him. His first wife, Clelia, dies during childbirth while he is focused on his work, and he later begins a relationship with Annita. His son Tonino feels pushed aside as Ferruccio gives more time to engines than to family. A late labor strike raises questions about Ferruccio's duties to his workers, but the main story stays focused on ambition, personal loss, and the need to win.
