Meyer Lansky is an aging Jewish mob boss living in Florida in 1981. Federal agents still think he hid a huge fortune, so they try to use a broke writer named David Stone to reach him. Lansky hires Stone to record his life story, but the writer is pushed to betray him while trying to save his own family. The film moves between quiet talks in Miami and violent flashbacks about New York, Cuba, Las Vegas, and the rise of the crime group.
Lansky shows its main character as a clever, loyal, and ruthless man who wants control over his own story. The film shows his friendship with Bugsy Siegel, his marriages, his ties to Jewish life, and his place among Italian mob leaders. It also shows him fighting Nazi supporters, helping the United States during World War II, and later feeling rejected by Israel. These events add history and hard questions about right and wrong, while the main story asks whether a killer can shape how people remember him.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Lansky.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main roles use mostly white actors in a story about Jewish and Italian gangsters. The film does not present diversity or identity-based casting as a message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The film includes historical talk about Jewish identity, Nazi violence, Israel, and the FBI. These lines explain Lansky’s life and time instead of pushing modern woke political ideas.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Lansky’s Jewish identity and immigrant past shape his story. The film treats them as period facts and personal history, not as a modern identity-politics campaign.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The FBI pressures Stone and follows Lansky, but that conflict serves the crime plot. The film does not attack Western institutions, family life, or traditional social rules with modern activist ideas.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film invents David Stone and compresses real events, but it does not change an established character’s race, gender, sexuality, or hero role.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public discussion focused on acting, weak writing, pacing, and historical accuracy. No anti-woke or DEI complaint appears in the reviewed news, Reddit, or X evidence.
0%
Creator track record context
The director and writer are linked to crime history and Jewish-American gangster research, not a public DEI campaign. Their public profiles show no clear activist pattern. A few producers have worked on queer-centered films, which is a small background signal. The movie itself follows the team’s crime and history focus.
