Let Them All Talk follows Alice Hughes, a famous but lonely writer who boards the Queen Mary 2 to accept a prize in England. She brings two college friends, Roberta and Susan, whom she has not seen for decades. Her nephew Tyler tags along to help. The crossing brings back old anger because Alice used Roberta’s private life in a best-selling book. The film uses dry humor, quiet tension, and long talks as the friends face regret, money, love, death, and the problem of turning real people into stories.
The film places three women in their seventies at the center and lets them carry most of the major talks and conflicts. The story gives repeated attention to aging, friendship, work, sex, pressure to have children, and the harm caused by abusive men. Tyler’s brief comments about his father and Susan’s work with women in prison add a mild gender message. The film finally returns to forgiveness, the cost of using real people in fiction, and the search for a new purpose.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Let Them All Talk.
Woke representation / casting
The film makes three women in their seventies the main characters and gives them most of the dialogue. The women lead the disputes and emotional turns, while the young man mostly helps them and learns from them. The story needs this group of old friends, so the casting does not look like a forced racial or sexual checklist. The strong older-women focus is still an audience-visible representation choice.
31%
Woke political dialogue
The film includes one short comment that Tyler’s father was ignorant in his politics and in the way he treated women. Susan also calls her work with women in prison a good fight. The film does not turn either point into a speech about modern identity politics or DEI. The other talks focus on writing, friendship, money, time, and death.
14%
Identity-driven story themes
The story keeps three older women at its center and treats their private lives as worth serious attention. The women discuss aging, friendship, work, sex, money, and pressure about having children. Susan’s work brings in a story about a woman hurt by a violent husband, and the film treats her pain with sympathy. These themes support a mild gender and age message.
30%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film contains personal stories about a bad father, a batterer, and money troubles. Those moments do not become a modern activist critique of men, capitalism, family, religion, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original story about invented characters. It does not change a known character, franchise, or historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke posts, boycott talk, or review-bombing. Web discussions focused on pacing, improvisation, and the ending rather than woke or DEI claims.
0%
Creator track record context
Steven Soderbergh has a record of liberal social and political commentary in other projects. Deborah Eisenberg has written about inequality, war, and political violence, but the stored context shows little DEI or identity-politics branding. The producers have low or mild scores, while Carmen Cuba has a record of seeking diverse talent. This gives a mild creator track record context signal.
