The story features a prominent gay twin brother who is tortured with electric shock conversion therapy by a fundamentalist Christian cult portrayed as evil hypocrites. The openly gay director deliberately added the sequence to critique organized religion and highlights LGBTQ+ elements in interviews. Grace's main arc of self-confidence amid trauma gets mixed with identity themes of otherness and acceptance. Queer identity trauma and conversion therapy dominate the brother's arc and drive key tragedy.
