Oddity is an Irish horror mystery set around a remote country house. Dani is murdered there, and the story later follows her blind twin Darcy, a psychic who runs a shop filled with strange old objects. Darcy suspects that Dani’s husband Ted lied about the killing, so she brings a frightening wooden figure to the house and starts digging for the truth. The movie mixes ghost scares, bloody violence, dark jokes, and a revenge story.
The film gives its main power and moral control to a blind woman who uses her gift to expose a man who helped cause her sister’s death. It also shows cowardly men using violence, lies, and a doctor’s job to control the women around them, while Darcy’s revenge is treated as satisfying. This creates a mild female-revenge and male-abuse message, but the movie does not connect it to current politics, identity campaigns, or a wider activist cause. The story stays focused on haunted objects, family loss, guilt, and punishment.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Oddity.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film’s few main characters are white, and the cast is not presented as a diversity message. Darcy’s blindness and female lead role serve the plot, but the film does not frame them as an empowerment or representation statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Characters talk about murder, ghosts, guilt, and revenge, not modern political or activist causes. No speeches promote identity politics, DEI, or anti-conservative ideas.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The film makes a woman’s revenge for male violence the moral center of the story. Darcy is given the main power, while Ted and Ivan are shown as violent and deceitful. That creates a mild female-revenge and male-abuse message. The film does not turn this into current gender politics or a wider activist campaign.
18%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Ted abuses his job as a psychiatrist, but the movie treats this as one man’s crime in a horror mystery. The story does not make a modern activist argument about Western institutions, patriarchy, or traditional social rules.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Oddity is an original story with no established franchise characters or real historical figures being changed.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One small X account praised the film for having “no woke elevated horror” baggage. Another small post praised Darcy as a strong female lead who avoids the modern “girl boss” type. Both posts had little or no engagement, and no boycott or sustained DEI claim was found. The backlash signal is fringe and weak.

Creator track record context
Damian McCarthy’s cached context notes a recurring pattern of cowardly men who kill women, which mildly matches this film’s villain setup. Producer Evan Horan has a strong LGBTQIA+ and gender-talent advocacy record, while other cached producer notes show smaller identity-focused links. The available context does not show that advocacy driving Oddity.
