Mary White leaves prison after setting fire to her serial killer boyfriend, James, who forced her to watch his murders. She takes an overnight job at the lonely Deer Gas Market while trying to hide her fear, guilt, and hallucinations. Rain, phone calls, strange customers, and violent attacks make her question whether James escaped or whether her mind is breaking down. The movie uses a grim gas station, a car graveyard, and heavy gore to create a tense psychological slasher.
The film gives the story a female-centered survival angle. Mary is an abuse victim, and the film follows her struggle against a controlling man rather than treating her as a helpless victim. Her fear, guilt, and mental trauma shape nearly every attack and twist. The main themes are abuse, survival, revenge, and the uncertain line between real events and hallucinations.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Open 24 Hours.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Mary and Debbie are women, but the film does not present their casting as a diversity or identity statement. The story gives Mary the lead because the plot follows her abuse, fear, and hallucinations.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue focuses on Mary's job, fear, the murders, and her past with James. It does not include modern identity, DEI, or activist lines.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The story centers on Mary, a woman who escapes an abusive and controlling boyfriend. Mary fights back and becomes the main survivor of the attack. The director also called her a strong female protagonist in an interview. The movie treats her trauma seriously, but it does not turn the story into a wider message about gender or present-day identity politics.
12%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows one controlling and violent man, along with Mary's parole and mental-health history. It does not make a wider attack on men, families, religion, capitalism, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film uses an original story about Mary and James rather than changing a known character or real event. Its plot turns on abuse, murder, and hallucination, not an identity swap.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass reports no anti-woke reaction and gives a volume of zero. Reddit and genre reviews debate the plot, gore, and ending, but no specific posts accuse the film of pushing woke or identity politics.
