Anne is a married American woman who feels lost after years of putting her family and her husband's work first. When an ear problem keeps her off a flight from Cannes, her husband's French business partner, Jacques, offers to drive her to Paris. The short trip turns into two days of food, wine, old buildings, and long talks across the French countryside. The tone is gentle, funny, romantic, and sometimes wistful.
Anne slowly sees that her husband has been loving but too busy to notice her, while Jacques gives her attention and asks if she is happy. The film gives a woman in her fifties the main point of view as she thinks about marriage, grief, desire, and the next part of her life. Anne takes photos, enjoys new places, and allows herself to feel attraction without making Jacques a perfect hero. The story ends by stressing that Anne must choose how to live, while the film keeps her love and marriage in view.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Paris Can Wait.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main roles are white American and French characters who fit the film's setting. The film does not present its casting as a diversity or identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue focuses on marriage, work, food, travel, grief, and attraction. The film has no modern identity, DEI, or activist speech.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Anne spends the whole film rethinking a marriage that has left her feeling unseen. The story gives a middle-aged woman the main view of desire, grief, photography, and a new stage of life. Anne is allowed to enjoy attention and make her own choice without treating Jacques as a perfect hero. This is a clear woman-centered message, but it stays personal instead of becoming a wider campaign about gender or identity.
38%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows one husband who is too focused on work and one marriage that needs attention. It does not turn that problem into a broad attack on men, family life, Western culture, Christianity, or social institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original story about Anne, Jacques, and Michael. It does not change an established character, source story, or real historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke reaction, and the wider coverage reviewed did not show claims that the film pushes DEI, identity politics, or left-wing messaging. Complaints focused on boredom, expensive food and travel, unwanted flirting, and weak chemistry.

Creator track record context
Eleanor Coppola's cached creator score is 45/100 because her work often centers women's emotional lives and creative self-direction. Her public record has little party politics, DEI campaigning, or culture-war activism. Marie Masmonteil's cached score is 45/100, while Denis Carot is 15/100, Fred Roos is 11/100, and Ugo Moulet is 0/100. This gives the film some gender-focused creator context, but it does not show a strong activist pattern.
