Patrick is a British family comedy about Sarah Francis, a young London teacher whose life is already falling apart after a breakup. When her grandmother dies, Sarah inherits Patrick, a spoiled pug she does not want and cannot keep in her flat. The dog causes trouble at home, at school, and during her attempts to meet a new partner. Sarah slowly learns to care for Patrick while she handles her students, a broken family, and two very different men. The film uses gentle jokes and dog chaos while keeping a warm, cheerful tone.
Sarah's work, dating life, and personal growth drive the story, while Patrick helps her meet new people and face daily duties. The film also follows a student hurt by her parents' breakup and shows Sarah trying to reach a difficult class. These small problems teach Sarah to be kind and responsible. They show how an unwanted change can improve a person's life. The tone stays soft even when the story shows death, family stress, and a lost dog.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Patrick.
Woke representation / casting
Sarah is the female lead and a working English teacher who carries most of the story. The supporting cast includes a South Asian woman as the school head and other varied London roles, which fits the modern setting. Beattie Edmondson described the project as directed, produced, and led by women, adding a small identity signal. The movie does not build a repeated diversity-first pattern or make gender a political issue.
12%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Sarah and her students talk about work, dating, books, and family problems. No one pushes modern identity, DEI, or activist ideas in dialogue.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Sarah's journey centers on caring for Patrick, handling work, and finding a better life. The story does not make race, gender, sexuality, or activist identity the main subject.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The school contains ordinary discipline problems and a student facing a family breakup. The movie does not attack men, families, religion, capitalism, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film follows Sarah and her inherited pug rather than changing an established character, source figure, or real historical person. No identity-based rewrite is part of the story.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The separate X pass found no anti-woke reaction, boycott talk, or named complaints. News and audience coverage focused on weak jokes, a simple plot, and the cute pug instead of woke or DEI issues.

Creator track record context
Mandie Fletcher's cached score is 8/100 and reflects a career in mainstream British comedy. Vanessa Davies has a cached score of 0/100 and a production-focused career. Most listed producers and the casting director have low cached scores, while Jonathan Feuer is 22/100 from a separate queer horror-comedy credit. This gives Patrick only a weak creator track record signal.
