Alec Bailey is a broke electrical repairman in England who owes money to dangerous men. His unknown uncle pays the debt if Alec moves to a small town in Nova Scotia for one year. A printing mistake makes the town think Alec can heal sick people, even though he denies it. Alec is selfish, grieving his dead twin, and unsure whether he should accept the family gift.
Abigail, a sharp fourteen-year-old with terminal cancer, asks Alec to pretend he can help because her parents need hope. Her courage pushes Alec to face his grief, repair his bond with his uncle, and care about other people. The story uses a priest, prayer, a family healing gift, and a cancer remission to build a hopeful faith story. Its main message is that life is a gift and that people should use their time to help others, while comedy, romance, and sad moments keep the tone gentle.

Not present. The film includes a brief false claim that Cecilia is a lesbian, but she uses it to avoid Alec. The line does not promote identity politics or a political idea.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story follows faith, grief, cancer, personal change, romance, and charity. It does not build its conflict around race, sex, gender identity, or activist politics.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Alec’s selfish behavior and the town’s fear of his gift are personal and supernatural conflicts. The film does not attack traditional family life, Christianity, or Western institutions through modern activist themes.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original story about Alec and a fictional family. It does not change an established character, source, or real historical event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One conservative Movieguide review treated the brief fake-lesbian claim as an unnecessary homosexual element. This was a single fringe complaint rather than a broad backlash. No anti-woke reaction was found on X.
5%
Creator track record context
Paco Arango, Sheila Lane, and Michael Volpe have no notable woke track record in the available creator records. Enrique Posner has a limited link to queer cinema through past financing, but no clear personal activist record. That distant link has little effect on this title.
