Greater is a 2016 sports drama about Brandon Burlsworth, a boy from Harrison, Arkansas, who dreams of playing for the Razorbacks. Coaches reject him because he is too small and out of shape, so he joins the team as a walk-on and works until he earns a scholarship and becomes an All-American. The story moves between Brandon’s rise and his older brother Marty’s grief after Brandon dies in a car crash soon after the NFL drafts him. The tone is earnest and emotional, with football, family, and Christian faith shaping nearly every major moment.
Brandon’s faith guides his choices, while Marty struggles with why God lets good people suffer. The film uses prayer, Bible teaching, church life, trust in God, and forgiveness as parts of the family’s answer. A mysterious stranger called the Farmer gives Marty a voice for anger and doubt, which makes the story more than a simple sports success tale. The ending presents grief as a test of faith and praises hard work, loyalty, humility, family duty, and belief.
