Roger Sharpe is a young writer who loves pinball and struggles to rebuild his life after a divorce. In 1970s New York, he finds that the game is illegal because city leaders still treat it as gambling. Roger joins the Music and Amusement Association and prepares to prove that skill, not luck, controls the ball. The film uses jokes, a fake documentary frame, warm romance, and a playful period style.
Roger’s fight for pinball is also a story about finding purpose after failure. The game gives him focus and the courage to write, take risks, and face a city council. He falls in love with Ellen, an artist and single mother, and must learn that a lasting family needs more than charm or a big plan. Their relationship, his bond with Ellen’s son, and his work as a writer give the historical fight its personal stakes. The movie ends as a light story about skill, freedom, family, and taking a chance.

Creator track record context
The directors’ public work centers on comedy, journalism, and free-market political satire. Most producers have little identity-focused history, but Stacey Parks has backed several representation-focused stories and Tony Glazer has supported a workforce diversity program. Those background signals do not shape this film’s plot or marketing.
