RRR follows Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, two fictional versions of real Indian revolutionaries in the 1920s. Bheem enters British territory to rescue Malli, a Gond girl taken from her village, while Raju works as a police officer who hunts him. The two men become close friends before they learn that their missions put them on opposite sides. Their friendship later joins their strength against a cruel British governor and his wife. The film uses huge fights, wild animals, songs, jokes, and heroic speeches in a loud, joyful, larger-than-life style.
The clearest identity element is Bheem’s Gond background, which links the rescue mission to a tribal community and its land and forest. The film also shows Bheem using a Muslim disguise, but the disguise is a plot trick and not a message about modern diversity. The story celebrates Indian unity, friendship, freedom, and resistance to British rule, while it uses Hindu epic images to make the heroes seem larger than life. These ideas are visible, but they come from the period story and the film’s patriotic adventure rather than a modern DEI or activist program.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for RRR.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main cast is Indian in an Indian setting, and the British officials are played as British characters. The film does not build a mixed group to make diversity visible or present casting as a modern identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The film uses patriotic and anti-colonial speeches, but those lines address British rule in the 1920s. No character delivers modern identity, DEI, gender, or present-day activist lines.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
RRR makes Bheem’s Gond identity part of the main rescue story. Malli also comes from the Gond community, and a brief “Water, Forest, Land” message connects the heroes’ fight to tribal rights. The film uses these details in a 1920s freedom story, not as a current DEI campaign. The identity focus is noticeable, but it does not control the whole movie.
18%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film attacks British colonial rule, but that conflict belongs to its 1920s setting. It does not shift the story into a modern attack on Western society, Christianity, capitalism, patriarchy, or conservative family life.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
RRR invents a Muslim disguise for the real-life Gond leader Komaram Bheem. The story explains the disguise as a way to hide from the authorities, so it is a plot device rather than a permanent new identity. The film also invents the friendship and shared mission of Bheem and Alluri, but those changes are not identity changes. The religious identity change is brief, yet it was visible in the marketing and caused pre-release complaints.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Right-leaning Indian politicians and online users objected to Bheem’s Muslim disguise and called it a false change to his identity. A BJP lawmaker threatened to burn theaters if the image remained. A British historian writing in a right-leaning outlet later attacked the film for making English people villains and for using dishonest nationalist history. The complaints were loud but limited, and they focused on religion and anti-British politics rather than a broad DEI campaign.

Creator track record context
The stored creator context gives Rajamouli a 5/100 score and gives the other listed creators scores of 0/100. Rajamouli’s record centers on mythic, historical, nationalist, and anti-colonial spectacle rather than a steady DEI or identity-activist pattern.
