Sting follows Charlotte, a lonely 12-year-old girl who finds a tiny spider inside a strange object that falls into her apartment building in New York. She hides the creature in her room and names it Sting, but the pet grows fast and starts feeding on animals and people. Charlotte's mother, stepfather Ethan, baby brother, and neighbors become trapped inside the building during a fierce storm. The film mixes bloody creature horror with dark jokes and a family story about fear, guilt, trust, and trying to stay together.
Charlotte drives the action because she knows the spider better than the adults and must help rescue her family. The film presents her courage as part of the survival plot, not as a message about gender or identity. The story treats Ethan's effort to become her father figure as an important part of the ending. The main message is that a troubled family can face danger and find its way back to one another while the spider remains the main threat.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Sting.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The present-day New York building has a mixed cast, but the movie does not make race, gender, or diversity a message. Charlotte's lead role follows her link to the spider and her family, not a representation campaign.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters discuss family stress, work, pets, and survival. They do not argue about elections, parties, activism, or public policy.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Charlotte is a brave girl who helps save her family, but the film does not tie her courage to a group identity or a political cause. The story focuses on fear, guilt, secrecy, and family trust.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The building has a cruel landlord, an absent father, family arguments, and an older woman with dementia. The story treats these as personal problems and horror details, not as an attack on men, families, religion, or Western society.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original alien-spider story. It nods to Charlotte's Web, The Hobbit, and Alien, but it does not alter an established character, historical figure, or real event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Audience discussion centers on the spider, gore, pacing, character choices, and the stepfather's treatment. No meaningful anti-woke, anti-DEI, or identity-politics complaint appears in the researched news and audience threads.

Creator track record context
Kiah Roache-Turner has a cached 15/100 score tied to discussion of Indigenous dispossession and Indigenous representation. Alison Thompson has a cached 51/100 score tied to gender parity and diversity in film. Josh Pomeranz has a cached 20/100 score tied to a film about children raised by same-sex parents, and Nadia Khamlichi has a cached 22/100 score tied to women's sexual agency. Most other listed producers have low cached scores and no strong activist record. The Sting interviews focus on spiders and family, so this background does not shape the film's message.
