V/H/S/Halloween is a found-footage anthology set around Halloween night. No single hero leads the whole film, but Blaine Rothschild watches a soda test while teenagers, friends, police, and families face separate nightmares. A group of older teens meets a monster in a house, young adults enter a cursed candy factory, and a father and son run a deadly home haunt. The film moves between a 1980s-style test lab, Spanish locations, small-town streets, and suburban homes. The tone is bloody, strange, mean, and often silly.
The film keeps returning to greed, child safety, false protection, and the clash between parents and older children. A soda company ignores deadly test results, a video shop turns missing-child videos into a tool for murder, and Halloween decorations become real killers. Other stories punish people who take too much candy, break into forbidden places, or refuse to grow up. These ideas stay tied to dark jokes, family trouble, media, and supernatural horror.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for V/H/S/Halloween.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The anthology uses mixed male and female casts and a Spanish-speaking segment, but the film does not present its casting as a diversity message. The visible choices do not form a repeated representation-first pattern.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The company testing a haunted soda and the video shop hiding a criminal scheme show greed and crime. The film does not use recurring political speeches or activist language.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The stories use body horror, supernatural punishment, and family conflict. The maternal monster, Spanish ritual, missing children, and father-son clash serve horror plots rather than an identity or representation message.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The soda company is cruel and careless, and the video shop hides a criminal scheme. These are ordinary horror plots about greed and abuse, not a recurring critique of Western institutions, family norms, or Christianity.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. V/H/S/Halloween adds new Halloween stories but does not recast or rewrite a known character or canon figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One MovieMeter user explicitly linked “woke” to the Black culprit in “Kidprint.” The comment treated the race choice as noteworthy, but it did not claim a broad DEI message. Reddit and mainstream reviews mostly argued about gore, child deaths, AI-looking images, and uneven quality.

Creator track record context
Paco Plaza has a prior score of 75/100 and an explicit feminist record. Araceli Pérez-Rastrilla has a prior score of 35/100 for backing women-led genre stories, while Samuel Zimmerman has a prior score of 26/100 tied to Black and LGBTQ horror-history projects. The other named writers and producers mostly have scores from 0 to 25 and genre-focused careers. This raises context modestly, but the film itself does not repeat those identity themes.
