The Desperate Hour

Amy Carr is a recently widowed mother raising her daughter Emily and teenage son Noah in a small American town. While Amy runs through the woods, police lock down the town after a shooter attacks Noah’s high school. Amy has no car and poor phone service, so she races on foot and uses calls, texts, and online posts to learn whether her children are safe. The film stays tense and narrow as Amy moves through fear, grief, confusion, and hope.

The main social message concerns school shootings and gun violence. The crisis fills the film, and Amy is asked to speak with the shooter while police try to rescue the hostages. The closing social media message says that the violence must stop and that people should not stay quiet. The story also stresses family love, a mother’s duty, grief after a father’s death, and the need for parents to understand troubled teenagers.
