Stuntman Colt Seavers returns after a career-breaking accident when producer Gail Meyer hires him for the Sydney set of Metalstorm. That film is the directing debut of his ex, Jody Moreno. The egotistical star Tom Ryder has vanished, so Colt digs into the disappearance while rekindling their romance. He uncovers a cover-up involving a dead stunt double, deepfakes, and Hollywood self-protection, all while still doing dangerous stunts on set. The movie is an action comedy romance loosely inspired by the 1980s series and sold as a love letter to practical stunt work.
On screen the focus stays on second-chance love, stunt craft, and a murder mystery inside the movie business. A woman directs for the first time and a woman produces, and some supporting roles go to a skilled stunt coordinator and an assistant who later becomes a producer. Those details sit in the background of the plot rather than as a diversity lecture. Dialogue sticks to banter, romance, and the cover-up. Soft jokes about entitled stars and fake industry deals appear, but the film does not push identity politics or social justice speeches.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Fall Guy.
Woke representation / casting
The set has a modern mix with a female first-time director and a female producer in major roles. Winston Duke plays a skilled stunt-coordinator ally, and Stephanie Hsu plays Tom’s assistant who later becomes a producer. The leads stay a white heterosexual couple, and the marketing did not sell diversity first. This reads as a light contemporary cast mix rather than quota-first casting.
12%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Dialogue is stunt-world banter, romance, and crime-cover-up plotting with no audience-facing DEI, identity-politics, or social-justice lectures.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The core story is second-chance romance, stunt craft, and a Hollywood murder conspiracy. Jody’s debut as a woman director is a career and relationship pressure beat. It is not a systemic gender or identity-politics thesis.
5%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film lightly mocks entitled movie stars, phony producers, and industry cover-ups and deepfakes. It does not frame patriarchy, toxic masculinity, Christianity, or broader Western cultural guilt as the point.
5%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Loose update of the 1980s series keeps Colt Seavers and recasts Jody as ordinary modernization with original-cast cameos, not race or gender-swap or DEI-framed canon rewriting.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Right-leaning and anti-woke chatter largely treated the film as non-woke traditional popcorn with stunts and romance and no lectures. Box-office and quality gripes dominate with no meaningful campaign that the movie pushes DEI content.
0%
Creator track record context
Cached scores are low for Leitch, Pearce, and most producers. Gosling has a long soft-feminist public brand and Barbie-era ally moments. Casting director Mary Vernieu has discussed representation. Overall context is mild and not activist-driven for this title.
