The Home follows Max, a troubled young graffiti artist who avoids jail by doing four months of community service at Green Meadows, a quiet retirement home in upstate New York. He carries grief over his foster brother Luke, whom he believes died by suicide. He hears screams at night and sees residents disappear or change without warning. The staff tells him to stay away from the sealed fourth floor, but his need to learn the truth pulls him into a violent secret tied to his own childhood. The movie moves from a slow mystery to bloody body horror and keeps a stormy, grim tone.
The clearest woke element is the movie's climate-change and generational message. The story presents old residents as a powerful group that steals youth from foster children, while the younger victims inherit the damage left by older people. The film treats the home's polished surface as a cover for an institution that has gone bad. It also links the hidden experiments to the idea that older generations have taken resources from the young. These ideas sit under the horror instead of replacing it, so viewers will notice a social message while the main story remains Max's fight to save Luke and the other prisoners.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Home.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The cast includes different racial backgrounds, but no character identity becomes a political message. No interview or marketing evidence presents the casting as a diversity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
The film uses direct references to climate change, oil drilling, and government-funded experiments. A news video and the final storm connect those ideas to the claim that older people have taken resources from the young. The message returns around the mystery but stays below the main horror plot.
24%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The movie centers on age, exploitation, grief, and foster-family trauma. It does not build its story around race, sex, sexuality, or a modern identity group.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film shows a retirement institution using rules, medical work, and government support to hide abuse. The home becomes an example of an institution that looks safe while serving powerful older people. The story also blames an older generation for taking youth and resources from younger victims. This critique matters to the mystery, but it stays inside a supernatural cult story and does not attack family, faith, or ordinary social life.
30%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original story, not an established franchise or historical retelling. It does not change a known character or real event for identity reasons.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke reaction, and web coverage found no clear complaint that the movie pushes DEI or identity politics.
0%
Creator track record context
James DeMonaco has a repeated record of using class, race, and political power commentary in The Purge films. He described The Home as a climate-change metaphor about older generations taking from younger ones. Adam Cantor has no high-confidence public record of activist or identity-driven work. The supplied producer context is mostly low or modest and adds little political signal.
