Sam is a quiet musician who visits his former girlfriend’s party in Paris to collect old cassette tapes. He falls asleep in a back room and wakes to find that a zombie outbreak has emptied the streets. He locks himself inside the apartment building and learns how to find food, water, shelter, and weapons. The quiet, bleak horror story follows his fight against fear, boredom, loneliness, and the slow loss of his grip on reality.
Sam’s main change is personal because he must decide whether safety is worth complete isolation. After he accidentally shoots Sarah, he imagines talks with her that push him to leave the building. He treats a trapped zombie as a strange companion, while old recordings and drumbeats keep his past close. The film presents survival without other people as another kind of death, and it keeps the action focused on Sam’s mind.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Night Eats the World.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main cast includes a Norwegian actor as Sam and an Iranian actor as Sarah in modern Paris. The film does not make their backgrounds, or any wider diversity goal, part of the story.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue covers the outbreak, survival, loneliness, music, and past relationships. No character gives modern identity, DEI, or activist lines.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Sam’s story follows one man’s fear, boredom, grief, and need for human contact. The film does not build its main conflict around race, gender, sexuality, or another identity cause.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows a broken city and Sam’s dislike of crowds. It does not attack modern institutions, family life, religion, capitalism, traditional gender roles, or conservatives.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie adapts a 2012 zombie novel. It changes Sam from a writer to a musician and adds Alfred, but those are story changes with no identity or canon swap.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No sustained anti-woke complaints about the movie appear in the reviewed news, social posts, or audience discussions. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke complaints, and other viewers mainly debated the slow pace, ending, and survival choices.
0%
Creator track record context
The director and two of the writers are mainly linked to horror, crime, and other genre work. Pit Agarmen, one writer, has a public history of writing and speaking about feminism, sexuality, gender norms, and queer identities. Producer Carole Scotta and casting director Leïla Fournier have some diversity-focused industry context. The current film does not carry those subjects, so this is a weak supporting signal.
