Andy leads a team of immortal fighters who protect people around the world. She has lost her immortality and can now die. The team faces Discord, an older immortal who hates humanity, while Quynh returns after centuries trapped underwater. The film uses large fights, dark fantasy ideas, personal pain, and a cliffhanger ending.
The film has a diverse team led by strong women, including Andy, Nile, Quynh, and Discord. Joe and Nicky remain an openly gay couple, although their romance gets less screen time than in the first movie. Andy and Quynh also share a past romantic bond that shapes their conflict. These identity elements are clear, but the film focuses more on action and immortal lore than on political messages.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Old Guard 2.
Woke representation / casting
Andy, Nile, Quynh, and Discord are prominent female fighters or leaders. The main team also includes several racial and cultural backgrounds. Joe and Nicky are an openly gay couple. The film and its coverage also present women-led action as a key feature, but the story does not make diversity a political speech.

Identity-driven story themes
The film includes a clear gay relationship between Joe and Nicky. It also gives Andy and Quynh a past romantic bond that drives their anger and reunion. The story treats these relationships as normal and emotionally important. The sequel gives the queer romance less time than the first film, so identity is important but not the main subject.

Creator track record context
Victoria Mahoney has a strong record of supporting wider opportunities for marginalized filmmakers. Sarah L. Walker has written gay characters and discussed LGBTI representation. Gina Prince-Bythewood and Charlize Theron also have public records tied to women-centered or feminist work. Other producers and writers have little activist history, which keeps this score moderate.
