Hanzo Hasashi is a ninja clan leader whose family and people are murdered by Sub-Zero. After he dies, a dark sorcerer pulls him from hell and turns him into Scorpion so he can hunt for revenge. On Earth, the thunder god Raiden builds a team of fighters—Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Johnny Cage—to win a deadly tournament that will decide if Earth survives. The tone is R-rated, bloody, and full of fantasy martial-arts fights.
The movie is about revenge, family loss, and a classic good-versus-evil fight tournament. Viewers mainly see brutal battles, Scorpion’s rage, and Raiden’s team learning to work together. The story sticks close to long-running game lore: a tough female soldier, fighters from different lands, and monsters from other realms. Interviews with the writers talk about gore, ’80s action vibes, and Scorpion’s family pain—not modern politics or identity lessons. A normal viewer would see a loud, gory fight movie, not a social-message film.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge.
Woke representation / casting
Heroes match the games: Sonya is a tough special-forces fighter, Jax is black as in the games, Liu Kang is a Shaolin warrior. That mix comes from franchise lore and a fantasy world, not a new “check the boxes” cast plan. Diversity is present but not sold as a message.
12%
Woke political dialogue
Talk centers on revenge, the tournament, and saving Earth. No clear activist lines about modern race, gender theory, or social justice slogans stand out in coverage or summaries.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Minor focus on Sonya’s independent toughness remains secondary to revenge and tournament action. Core themes are family murder, revenge, hellish deals, and a fight for Earth. Not built around modern identity politics, queer arcs, or systemic social lectures.
10%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Villains are Outworld sorcerers, monsters, and rival clans—not modern Western government, church, capitalism, or “toxic masculinity” as a social sermon.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie reframes the first game’s story around Scorpion for drama and fan service. No well-reported race/gender swaps or DEI rewrites of known characters.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
No serious, widely reported anti-woke campaign targets this film as woke propaganda. Praise and gripes are mostly about fights, blood, and story pace.
0%
Creator track record context
Most key names score very low on stored activist records. Adams and Spaulding publicly sold craft and gore. Sotta’s higher score from other queer-heavy work does not show up as content in this movie, so the team overall stays mild.
