Dan Forester is a high school science teacher and former soldier who wants a better life for his wife and young daughter. Soldiers from the year 2051 appear and say Earth is losing a war with deadly aliens. Many people from today get drafted to jump forward in time and fight. Dan goes to save his family and the future, and he teams up with his grown daughter, a tough scientist, and his distant dad in a big action story full of monsters, danger, and hope.
A normal viewer will mostly notice family bonds, war action, and saving the planet. The clearest modern political note is climate change. The movie says melting ice freed the aliens, and early scenes include lots of talk about a future crisis people must stop now. The cast also includes a strong woman army scientist (Dan’s adult daughter), a black man with a science PhD, and other skilled black supporting fighters. Those choices show some modern “mix the cast and put capable women and people of color in key roles” style, but the story still centers on a white male dad hero and classic military sci-fi. There is no major race or gender rewrite of an old book character, and no clear LGBTQ plot. Overall the woke feel is light to moderate, driven mainly by the climate message and mixed casting, not by identity lectures.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Tomorrow War.
Woke representation / casting
Modern U.S. cast with a female colonel-scientist lead partner, a black PhD science sidekick, and other capable black military roles. Fits common diversity-in-prominent-roles patterns, but the main hero is still a white male dad and soldier. Not a race or gender swap of a known classic character. Noticeable to some viewers, not the whole movie.
32%
Woke political dialogue
Early stretch has lots of talk about a coming global crisis and acting now. Climate and warming show up as plot talk, not long race or gender sermons. Viewers who listen closely will hear the message; it is not constant identity politics speech.
26%
Identity-driven story themes
The big twist ties the alien threat to melting ice and global warming, so “fix the future now” is baked into the story. Family and war still dominate. Climate is the main modern activist-style theme; race, gender identity, and queer storylines are not the engine of the plot.
30%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Military draft, survival, and family duty drive the film. A quick dig at slow official help appears, but the movie is not an attack on Western life, faith, or men as a group. Pro-family and pro-teamwork more than culture-war critique.
5%
Woke character or canon changes
Not present in this title.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Scattered user and social complaints about diversity casting, “girlboss” military women, DEI vibes, or climate preaching. Others loudly said it was not woke. No big news-level anti-woke boycott story. Real but thin.
18%
Creator track record context
Key directors, writer, and main producers have low cached scores and commercial action / sci-fi careers. Pratt’s public image leans against progressive activism. Casting has one inclusion-minded credit, which does not lift the whole team much.
