In 1870s Montana, Henry Broadway watches his estranged father Isaac hang for a crime Isaac says he did not commit. Isaac sends Henry to Trinity to kill the sheriff who framed him, but that sheriff is already dead. The new sheriff, Gabriel Dove, tries to keep peace while the dangerous St. Christopher hunts old gold and settles an old score. The story mixes revenge, gun fights, hidden money, family guilt, and hard choices in a rough western town.
The film gives Sarah Dove several public roles as a doctor, birth helper, deputy, and armed defender of her home. Running Cub is a native woman who is blamed by the town mob and becomes tied to the film’s justice story. St. Christopher is a black former slave whose stolen gold and lost freedom shape his revenge. These identity elements return in the mob hunt and the final fights, but Henry’s family revenge, the gold hunt, and the choice to end revenge remain the main story.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Unholy Trinity.
Woke representation / casting
Sarah Dove works as the town doctor who helps with births, acts as deputy when Gabriel is away, and uses a gun to defend the home. Running Cub is a native woman who receives a major story role and joins the final fight. St. Christopher is a black former slave whose past drives the gold and revenge plot. The film mostly shows white male townsmen, and the nonwhite roles have clear story reasons, so the pattern is visible but not strongly quota-like.
30%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The film mentions slavery, old crimes, and the town’s fear of a native woman. The dialogue uses those facts to explain revenge and justice rather than making modern identity-politics arguments.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Running Cub’s identity as a native woman shapes the town’s story about the old sheriff’s death and the mob’s hunt for her. The film presents her as a person seeking justice for her murdered parents and protecting herself from the town. St. Christopher’s history as a former slave explains his anger over stolen gold and lost freedom. Henry’s family revenge and the gold hunt remain the main story, so these identity-driven themes support the western plot instead of taking it over.
27%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film treats the saloon’s sex workers as ordinary members of the town instead of shameful figures. Sarah takes public authority as a doctor, deputy, and armed protector while remaining Gabriel’s loving wife. The story gives these women dignity, but it does not build a modern attack on men, family life, Christianity, or Western institutions.
14%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original Western and does not adapt known characters, a book, or real historical people in its main roles. Its invented characters do not have an earlier canon to change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One right-leaning film-politics account praised the western as a manly tale but listed its female Native fighter, female doctor wife, and pregnant prostitute as supposed woke elements. The post treated those points as side notes rather than calling for a boycott. An anonymous white-nationalist account focused on the film having only one black lead. The reaction was fringe, with no repeated boycott, review bomb, or forced-DEI pile-on.
12%
Creator track record context
Richard Gray has a low cached woke score and is mainly known for genre films, with one global-warming documentary in his wider work. Lee Zachariah has a cached score of 0 and no high-confidence activist profile. Most of the listed producers and the casting director also have low cached scores. Producer Lee Matthews has limited queer-rights subject matter through Hating Peter Tatchell, but no title-specific activist message was found in the interview coverage.
