Then Came You follows Calvin Lewis, a 19-year-old baggage handler who fears that every small health problem means he is dying. A doctor sends him to a cancer support group, where he meets Skye Aitken, a teenager with terminal cancer. Skye asks Calvin to help complete her strange list of things to do before death. The film takes place around an airport and nearby homes, schools, shops, and hospitals in upstate New York. Its tone mixes jokes, romance, family pain, and sad scenes about illness and loss.
Skye is the forceful partner in the friendship, and she pushes Calvin to take risks while he helps her finish the list. Calvin also faces the death of his twin sister, guilt in his family, a broken romance, and his fear of flying. The story treats Skye’s boldness as part of her way of facing death, while Calvin’s change comes from learning to live instead of waiting for danger. The main message is that friendship, honesty, and using time well can help people face grief and fear.
