Divorced parents fly to Bali to stop their daughter’s quick wedding. The mother and father are famous stars in a light remarriage comedy. They scheme and banter while they try to protect her from a mistake like their own divorce. The fiancé lives a local life tied to seaweed farming, and her path is a Chicago law career. The film stays a vacation romance about second chances and family control.
Viewers see one interracial romance between the daughter and her Balinese fiancé. Georgia’s younger French boyfriend is a joke about age gaps. Neither plot is sold as a diversity milestone. Talk stays about divorce, sabotage, and new love. The story does not push activist speech or a wide identity agenda.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Ticket to Paradise.
Woke representation / casting
The leads are white American stars in parts written for them. Indonesian and French Indonesian actors play Gede and his Balinese family. That casting fits a story set in Bali. The daughter’s romance with Gede crosses racial lines on screen. Georgia’s younger French boyfriend is a joke about their age gap. The film does not sell either relationship as a diversity milestone.
5%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Dialogue is classic banter about divorce, sabotage, and second chances. No activist, DEI, or identity politics speech appears.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The story centers on remarriage and parents who try to control an adult child. The film asks whether a rushed wedding will repeat the parents’ divorce. A Chicago law career sits next to Balinese seaweed farming as a class and culture gap. That gap works as a personal rom com problem the couple solves between themselves. The plot does not turn the gap into a lesson about race, gender, or systemic power.
5%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Wealthy Western tourists get light comic friction. Bali is a vacation fantasy backdrop. The film does not attack patriarchy, whiteness, capitalism, Christianity, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original screenplay. It is not an adaptation of established characters or history.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No meaningful right leaning or too woke backlash was found. Progressive coverage focused on filming Australia for Bali and tourist colonial gaze critiques. Some people said Maxime Bouttier was not Asian enough for a Balinese role. Those debates are not the same as anti woke culture war backlash about the film’s politics.

Creator track record context
Cached scores place George Clooney at 40 and Julia Roberts at 38 as high profile liberal Democrats with humanitarian activism. Grant Heslov scores 25 and other producers sit lower. Director and co writer Ol Parker scores 17. Daniel Pipski scores 4. Those creators lack careers built on identity politics. The team has a liberal Hollywood pedigree. This title does not carry a DEI or identity first creative brand.
