Time Trap follows Taylor and a group of students who enter a cave in central Texas to find their missing professor, Hopper. Inside the cave, time moves far more slowly than it does outside, so a short search becomes a trip across thousands of years. The group faces broken ropes, dangerous cave people, strange visitors from the future, and a fight around a legendary Fountain of Youth. The tone mixes mystery, danger, jokes, and fast low-budget adventure with an ending that opens the story into space.
The film's main ideas are friendship, family, loss, and the fear that the world people know may disappear. Hopper searches for his parents and sister, while the students risk their lives to save him and each other. Cara, Jackie, and Veeves take active parts in the search, and Taylor uses his ideas about the cave to explain its strange time rules. The ending moves from a fight over the Fountain of Youth to a future space station, leaving the group with hope and many new questions.
