Gerald “Gerry” Cotten runs QuadrigaCX, a Canadian cryptocurrency exchange that holds money for thousands of customers. When Cotten dies in India, the exchange collapses and about $250 million becomes hard to find. Angry investors gather in online groups and try to learn whether he died naturally, was killed, or faked his death. The movie has a tense, fast, and suspicious true-crime tone.
The film follows the money trail through interviews, news clips, old videos, and chat messages. It shows how greed, weak trust, and the promise of quick wealth can hurt ordinary people. The investors often act like internet detectives, and their theories grow when facts are hard to check. The story also follows the pressure placed on Cotten’s widow before the film turns toward fraud and the danger of believing every online claim.
