Street-smart pickpocket Nathan Drake is recruited by fortune hunter Victor Sullivan to chase Magellan’s lost treasure and clues about Nate’s missing brother Sam. The movie works as a glossy video-game prequel built on globe-trotting heists, double-crosses with partner Chloe Frazer, and a race against heir Santiago Moncada and mercenary Jo Braddock. Viewers are mainly sold buddy banter, big stunts, and classic adventure thrills. The film is not framed as a political story about modern social causes.
What stands out on the woke side is casting and light empowerment flavor rather than a full message movie. Jo Braddock is a film-original main villain who leads mercenaries, kills her weaker male boss Moncada, and outfights Nate and Sully. Chloe Frazer is a capable Indian-heritage partner in the mold of the games, so two strong action women including a new final boss form a visible modern pattern. The plot still turns on Magellan gold, brotherhood, trust, and betrayal, with no confirmed activist dialogue, colonial-guilt thesis, or identity rewrite of game canon. Anti-woke complaints about female empowerment and an emasculated male boss exist but stay limited, while many viewers treat the film as plain escapism.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Uncharted.
Woke representation / casting
Jo Braddock is a new main villain who leads mercenaries, kills her male boss, and beats Nate and Sully in fights. Chloe Frazer is a skilled partner whose Indian heritage matches the games. Having two strong action women, including a created final boss, fits a clear modern pattern. The rest of the globe-trotting setup is ordinary for this genre.
28%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. No confirmed identity, DEI, or activist dialogue. Talk is standard treasure-hunt banter and quips.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The plot is about Magellan gold, brotherhood, trust, and betrayal. Braddock taking power from a weak male boss and capable Chloe add a light empowerment feel. The movie is not about race, gender politics, or systemic social-justice messaging.
18%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Magellan treasure is pure adventure MacGuffin. There is no colonial-guilt, anti-Western, anti-Christian, or toxic-masculinity thesis. Moncada is a generic corrupt heir.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Younger Nate, original Braddock, and timeline compression are adaptation and prequel choices, not identity-driven rewrites. Chloe’s heritage tracks the games.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Backlash stayed small and was not a big culture-war fight. Some outlets and posts criticized light female empowerment, Braddock as an unearned badass, and Moncada as a weak daddy’s boy. Other viewers praised the film as free of woke propaganda. Most fan anger was about Holland and Wahlberg not matching the games, not DEI.
18%
Creator track record context
Fleischer and most of the writing, producing, and casting team have low commercial profiles on this axis. Co-writer Rafe Judkins stands out higher from Wheel of Time representation fights. Overall the team is entertainment-first with one elevated writer.
