Elly Conway is a quiet spy novelist who lives with her cat and struggles to finish her latest book. Her stories about agent Argylle start matching real secret missions run by a dangerous group called the Division. A real spy named Aidan pulls her into a chase across cities and countries as killers close in. The movie is a loud, silly action comedy full of big twists, flashy fights, and jokes about books and spies.
The story turns on memory tricks, fake families, and the idea that Elly's novels are really buried memories of her own spy life. She becomes the center of the action as she fights back and races to stop the Division. The film stays focused on double agents, hidden files, and over-the-top stunts, including a wild ice-skating battle. Romance and buddy-spy banter sit beside the big set pieces as the line between her books and the real world breaks down.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A few social posts call the twist a girl-boss bait-and-switch because marketing leaned on Henry Cavill while the story reveals quiet author Elly as the real top agent. Others shrug the ending off as woke nonsense. These complaints are sparse, low-reach, and mixed with gripes about quality. They never became a broad news fight about DEI or propaganda.
18%
Creator track record context
Key creatives carry low stored woke scores. Director Matthew Vaughn is known for flashy spy action, not activist messaging. The writer, producers, and casting leads also lack strong identity-driven project patterns in the cache used for this review.
