Balls Up follows Brad Lewison, a bold American marketing salesman, and Elijah DeBell, a nervous product designer. They try to make a condom that covers both the penis and testicles a World Cup sponsor in Brazil. A drunken celebration and a mistake during the final turn them into targets of fans, officials, criminals, and other people who want revenge. The film uses an R-rated, gross-out buddy-comedy tone filled with sex jokes, drugs, fights, chases, and silly accidents.
Brad and Elijah rely on crude male humor and a buddy bond while they stumble through Brazil. A brief jungle episode uses American eco-activists as comic obstacles, and the film also jokes about fake Brazilian accents and whether a performance is offensive. The story uses its Brazilian and American characters for local officials, criminals, fans, and helpers rather than for an identity message. These points stay inside the adventure plot and do not guide the characters’ main arc.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Balls Up.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The two main roles are American men, while the supporting roles belong to a Brazil-set story. Some performers use comic accents or play a different nationality, but the movie does not frame this as a diversity goal or make representation part of the story.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue centers on condom sales, football, sex, drugs, and escape. A quick joke about eco-activists is used as a silly obstacle, not as a serious activist message.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The main arc follows workplace failure, male friendship, and survival after a drunken mistake. The sexual jokes and foreign characters do not turn the story into a message about race, gender, sexuality, or identity.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The movie mocks officials, marketers, football fans, and eco-activists as comic obstacles. It does not build a modern critique of Western institutions, men, family, religion, or traditional social rules.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original comedy with no established characters, canon, or real historical story to change. Its Brazil setting and World Cup plot are original story choices.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A small anonymous account called the movie “so gay and vulgar” and linked it to Netflix-style LGBT and diversity casting. A second small right-leaning account used a “gay lover” insult about Paul Walter Hauser while attacking the movie. The X pass found no large account, boycott, review-bomb drive, or organized political campaign. Other conservative posts focused on condoms, birth control, drugs, and raunch, not DEI or identity politics.
8%
Creator track record context
Peter Farrelly’s creator score is 11/100, and his work is mainly broad comedy with no documented activist agenda. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have scores of 10/100 each and are known for raunchy action comedy, not identity-first projects. Andrew J. Muscato has a score of 20/100 because American Swamp used a liberal political reform angle, but that work is not identity-driven. The other listed creators have low scores and no clear activist record.
