Dan Morgan looks like a quiet car salesman who loves his wife and three children in Buffalo. He is also a former government assassin who has spent years hiding from his old life. When killers find him, he rushes the family across the country to Las Vegas in a minivan. The trip mixes gun fights, car chases, jokes, and family arguments as Dan tries to protect everyone without telling the truth.
The film has a few short lines that use woke political ideas. Nina repeats her boyfriend Trevor’s claim that monogamy is part of Western repression, and she calls a college crowd a toxic masculinity convention. A killer also jokes about the capitalist machine. The movie treats these ideas as bad jokes from foolish or criminal people, then returns to family loyalty, marriage, and shared responsibility as its main message. Nina’s short subplot ends with her rejecting Trevor’s influence and moving back toward her own goals.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Family Plan.
Woke representation / casting
Not present in this title.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Trevor says monogamy is a construct of Western repression after Nina catches him cheating. Nina calls a college crowd a toxic masculinity convention. A killer jokes about being a cog in a capitalist machine. The film uses these lines for jokes and does not build a political argument around them.
15%
Identity-driven story themes
Nina briefly follows Trevor’s anti-establishment attitude and plans her college choice around him. Trevor uses anti-monogamy and anti-Western language to excuse cheating. The story makes him a foolish villain and has Nina return to her own goals and family, so this thread stays small.
12%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Nina calls a college crowd a toxic masculinity convention. Trevor calls monogamy part of Western repression, and a killer mocks the capitalist machine. These lines are brief and are aimed at a cheating boyfriend or a criminal, so the movie does not make Western institutional / cultural critique a main theme.

Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. This is an original screenplay with no established characters, source material, canon, or real historical figures/events reinterpreted through identity or DEI lenses. Ordinary adaptation or modernization choices do not apply.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No significant anti-woke or right-leaning backlash or complaints exist that treat the film as pushing woke, DEI, identity politics, or left-wing messaging. Public and audience response focused on it as light, generic family action-comedy entertainment. Searches across news, reviews, and social media found no organized or notable claims of agenda, propaganda, or representation overreach for the 2023 release.
0%
Creator track record context
Simon Cellan Jones has no recorded activist or identity-driven focus. David Coggeshall mainly writes commercial horror and action. The cached producer context is also business-focused, while Mark Wahlberg has a conservative public image. This group gives little support for a woke reading of the film.
