Eddie Garrett is a broke parking worker in Chicago who spends his nights gambling. A criminal asks Eddie to hide a bag while he serves a prison term, but Eddie opens it and finds a large amount of cash. Eddie gambles with the money and must win it back before the owner returns. The film mixes dry comedy, crime tension, romance, and a serious look at addiction.
Eddie gets a chance to change when his older brother gives him landscaping work, his Gamblers Anonymous sponsor challenges his excuses, and Eva, a nurse and single mother, expects more from him. Eddie wants a better life with Eva, but his habit keeps pulling him back toward lies and danger. The film treats gambling as a cycle of hope, panic, and loss instead of a glamorous path to wealth. Its main themes are addiction, family loyalty, romance, work, and the hard choice to accept responsibility.
