Personal context

Summary

Adam Horovitz, known as Ad-Rock, is a Beastie Boys co-founder, rapper, writer, and actor, with film roles including While We’re Young. The Beastie Boys’ work evolved from irreverent party rap to music with antiwar and social themes. Horovitz apologized publicly in 1999 for homophobic lyrics on the band’s first album, urged artists and promoters to improve women’s safety at concerts after Woodstock ’99, and spoke at a 2016 rally against antisemitic and pro-Trump graffiti. His public record includes these statements on sexuality, women’s safety, and political extremism; no ongoing advocacy organization role is on record.
