Carlie Mantilla-Jordan

Personal context

Summary

Carlie Mantilla-Jordan is an American actress, comedian, writer, and director of Mexican descent who began in stand-up and later created work across comedy, music, television, and film. She co-wrote and appeared in the musical short Gangsta Waitress, co-created the digital comedy series Your Mom Says Hi!, and has written or co-written mainstream projects including Angel Falls Christmas and Groundswell. Her strongest identity-related association is the documentary Shinjiro, which she co-directed with John-Eliot Jordan about J-pop performer Shinjiro Atae’s public coming out as gay and the aftermath of that decision. This represents a meaningful LGBTQ-focused creative choice, but there is limited evidence of a sustained public activist persona, repeated representation campaigning, or a career primarily organized around identity politics.
