Dan Wetzel

Personal context

Summary

Dan Wetzel is a sports columnist, investigative journalist, author, screenwriter, podcaster and ESPN senior writer who spent more than two decades at Yahoo Sports. His reporting has covered the NFL, college sports, the Olympics, World Cups and major institutional scandals, including investigations involving Miami, Ohio State, the NCAA, Jerry Sandusky, Larry Nassar and Aaron Hernandez. He has also written about sexual assault cases and the unequal treatment of athletes, and co-wrote Death to the BCS, a criticism of college football’s governing structure. Those subjects reflect investigative and accountability-oriented journalism, but his public career is centered on sports, governance and crime reporting rather than DEI, representation-first creative work or identity activism. His screenwriting and documentary credits are limited relative to his journalism, and there is no clear public record of a sustained partisan, anti-woke or identity-politics persona.
