Danielle Deadwyler is an actor, producer, and performance artist whose work includes The Harder They Fall, Station Eleven, Till, and The Piano Lesson. Her performances and art often explore black history, black women’s labor, motherhood, sexuality, and the body. She has said that racism and misogynoir shape Hollywood’s treatment of black women, called for a more equitable industry, and used a 2024 Women in Hollywood speech to honor black women, trans women, and nonbinary people. She has also spoken about growing up volunteering with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and urged audiences to consider how they can engage in activism.
