Dustin Hoffman

Personal context

Summary

Dustin Hoffman is an American actor known for films including The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Kramer vs. Kramer, Rain Man, and Tootsie, with roles often focused on outsiders, family relationships, and social expectations. In 2016, he said Hollywood’s racial diversity reflected broader racism and attributed the shortage of female directors to sexism. He also reflected that playing a woman in Tootsie made him recognize how appearance standards had kept him from knowing interesting women. No sustained advocacy organization role or repeated political campaigning is on record. In 2017, several women accused him of sexual misconduct; he apologized to one accuser for anything he might have done to make her uncomfortable and disputed the allegations during a public discussion.
