Jack Thompson is an Australian actor known for films including Wake in Fright, Breaker Morant, The Man from Snowy River and Mystery Road. His career spans Australian dramas and historical stories, including several films centered on Indigenous experiences. For decades, he has attended the Garma Festival and advocated for Indigenous communities: in 1999 he called a move to end bilingual education “cultural genocide,” helped establish the Jack Thompson Foundation’s homelands building program, and has spoken publicly in support of Indigenous stories and communities. He has also served as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, raising awareness of Cambodian refugees.
