Personal context

Summary

Jean Smart is an American actor whose long career includes Designing Women, Frasier, Fargo, Watchmen, Mare of Easttown, and Hacks. Her roles often feature sharp-witted women navigating work, family, and power, but those credits alone do not establish her personal politics. Smart has been described as a Democrat and has publicly criticized Donald Trump; in 2025, she called the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show an attack on free speech. The Human Rights Campaign honored her with its National Equality Award in 2024.
