Keith David

Personal context

Summary

Keith David is an actor and singer known for The Thing, Platoon, There’s Something About Mary, and voice roles in animation and documentaries. His career spans film, television, stage, and narration, with many authoritative or imposing characters. He has said he wants audiences to understand black men as “full-scope human beings,” framing that aim as part of how he approaches roles. In 2012, he called himself an Obama supporter and said he would feel like an idiot supporting Mitt Romney; no public DEI affiliations or sustained activist campaigns are on record.
