Jabari is a young street artist in New York City. He just got a big comic-book job and moved into a fancy Manhattan loft. He meets his neighbor Meadow, a photographer, and they fall for each other. The movie is a bright, music-heavy adult animated romance about love, career pressure, friends, and trust. The tone is warm, stylish, and dreamy more than plot-heavy.
What stands out most for viewers is that this is sold and talked about as a black love story. The main couple is black, the cast and look celebrate black style and beauty, and interviews and Netflix promos frame it as rare black romance in animation. The story itself is a normal “will they make it work?” romance, not a movie about race fights or big political fights. There is a light side plot about the comic company wanting Jabari to soften his street art. Kenya Barris and some writers from race-focused TV sit behind the scenes. There was almost no anti-woke backlash; most talk praised the look, music, and romance.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Entergalactic.
Woke representation / casting
Black leads and a black creative social world are central and intentional. Marketing and interviews sell black love and black beauty in animation. Supporting cast is mixed in a modern NYC way. Not a race-swap of old white source material, but representation is clearly a selling point viewers would notice.
48%
Woke political dialogue
Talk is mostly dating, friends, art, and career. A workplace beat pressures Jabari to tone down his street-art character for a comic company. That is mild, not long activist speeches. Ordinary adult banter and romance lines dominate.
22%
Identity-driven story themes
The plot is classic romance: success vs love, trust, and an ex in the way. Identity shows up more as “this romance centers black lovers and culture” than as a story about racism or protest. Viewers who see promos and interviews will clock the black love framing; the movie is not a race-politics drama.
36%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Soft push against selling out art to a big company and a light big-city, modern-dating feel. Not a hard attack on religion, traditional family, or “toxic masculinity” as a main theme. Corporate polish vs real art is the main critique, and it stays light.
28%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Original story built around Cudi’s music and new characters, not identity rewrites of old canon or real history.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
No clear, widely reported anti-woke campaign treating Entergalactic as DEI propaganda. Reaction was mostly praise for style, music, and romance. Complaints of that kind are not a real public story here.

Creator track record context
Mix of low-score commercial talent and mid-to-high identity-forward people: Barris (65), Mayard (58), Lewis (45), Stone (40), Cuba (36), Cudi (22), Moules and several producers near 0. Overall supporting context is moderate progressive/black-culture TV more than street activism.
