Sean Penn

Personal context

Summary

Sean Penn is an actor, director, and producer known for films including Dead Man Walking, Mystic River, Milk, and Into the Wild. His work has often engaged with political conflict, violence, and social outsiders, though those credits alone do not establish his personal views. Penn has campaigned against U.S. wars, founded the humanitarian relief organization CORE, and made repeated public interventions on Haiti and Ukraine. He has criticized Donald Trump and, in 2024, accused the Academy of limiting cultural expression; he has also criticized #MeToo, calling its public debate divisive.
