2025 · Based on 1 season, 3 episodes through February 17, 2025 ·
This three-part true-crime series follows 22-year-old travel vlogger Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, on a 2021 van trip across the United States. Gabby posts cheerful videos from national parks, but friends, texts, and police video show Brian’s controlling and angry behavior. Gabby’s family reports her missing after Brian returns to Florida alone in her van. The series uses family interviews, phone messages, home video, and body-camera footage to tell the case in a sad, serious way.
The main subject is abuse hidden behind a happy social media image and the warning signs around Gabby’s death. The final episode also shows a news clip about missing white woman syndrome. The clip says news outlets gave more attention to Gabby’s case than to many missing people of color. This short part adds an identity-based criticism of news coverage, but it does not drive the series.
