Berlin follows Andrés de Fonollosa, a stylish thief known as Berlin, before the events of Money Heist. In Paris, he gathers Damián, Keila, Cameron, Roi, and Bruce to steal 44 million euros in jewels from a luxury auction house. Berlin should lead the plan, but he becomes obsessed with Camille, the wife of the man tied to the jewels. The season mixes crime, romance, comedy, and fast escapes, and it treats the crew as a messy group of friends.
The clearest identity-related material comes from Berlin’s treatment of women and the season’s talk about love, sex, and marriage. Camille calls one of Berlin’s views misogynistic, and she rejects crude men who make catcalls, but the show turns much of Berlin’s stalking and lies into a playful romance. Keila is a brilliant electronic engineer, and Cameron is a fearless thief, yet the story does not make gender politics or diversity its main subject. The main themes are selfish love, betrayal, loyalty, and the thrill of a robbery.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Berlin.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Keila is an electronic engineering expert and Cameron is a daring thief, but the show does not frame their gender or ethnicity as a diversity message. The season does not promote the cast as part of a wider identity goal.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Camille calls Berlin’s wish for a quiet life misogynistic. Camille says she hates vulgar men who use catcalls and dirty comments. Berlin answers with sexual jokes and treats the exchange as flirtation. The season does not return to a wider political debate about gender.
24%
Identity-driven story themes
Berlin’s pursuit of Camille repeatedly shows a man using surveillance, lies, and pressure to control a woman he wants. Camille still makes her own choices and later uses Berlin’s secrets against him. Keila and Cameron also speak openly about sex and desire without treating female desire as shameful. These ideas stay inside the romance plots and do not drive the robbery.
18%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Camille challenges Berlin’s sexist and entitled behavior. Berlin stalks, spies on, and lies to her, and the story shows those choices damaging the plan. The romance still treats his behavior as charming and exciting, so the season offers only a small critique of male entitlement. The police, church, and rich auction house are plot obstacles rather than targets of a modern Western-culture message.
23%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show expands Berlin’s earlier life from the Money Heist world. It does not make a race, gender, sexuality, or identity change to an established character.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Audience complaints focus on slow pacing, too much romance, weak writing, and Berlin’s behavior. No clear anti-woke, anti-DEI, or anti-left backlash about this season was found.
0%
Creator track record context
Cached context gives Álex Pina a low score of 26 and Esther Martínez Lobato a score of 36. Pina has made stories about fighting powerful groups, and Lobato has made women-centered stories, but neither has a strong public record of activist or DEI campaigning. The wider cached crew record is mostly low, with some feminist or diversity-aware context.
