2026– · Based on 1 season, 6 episodes through March 23, 2026
Gone follows DS Annie Cassidy, a police detective who moves into a family liaison role after Sarah Polly disappears. Sarah's husband, Michael, runs a respected private boys' school near Bristol, and his calm reaction makes him the main suspect. Annie works inside the family while her damaged marriage and an old missing-girl case keep pulling at her. The six-part drama uses a slow, dark, tense style and builds its mystery through interviews, secrets, and pressure.
The show's strongest woke elements are its repeated focus on male control, domestic abuse, and the limits of old-fashioned masculinity. The story presents Annie as a sidelined but highly skilled woman who keeps pushing past male bosses and helps uncover the truth. It treats the private school as a closed power system whose status and traditions can hurt families and boys. These ideas shape Annie's past, Sarah's marriage, Michael's downfall, and the school's role in the crime, so they are more than small side points.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Gone.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Annie and Becky are women in police roles, and Alana is a teacher in the family. The show presents these as normal parts of the setting, not as a diversity message about gender, race, sexuality, or disability.
0%
Woke political dialogue
The dialogue says that Michael's idea of a strong, serious male leader failed his family. Annie and Alana discuss women living with fear, controlling men, and the harm caused by silence. The finale says that the school has been shaping boys in the wrong way. These points recur across several episodes and give the crime story a clear gender message.
43%
Identity-driven story themes
The story repeatedly treats male control, domestic abuse, and strict masculinity as forces that damage women and families. Annie's own abuse history shapes her work, her marriage, and her bond with Michael. Sarah's marriage and the old missing-girl case keep the same gender concerns active across the season. The show makes these ideas a major part of the mystery, not a small side plot.
65%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The private school is presented as a closed institution that values its name, rugby, fees, exams, and tradition. The finale links that pressure to the way boys are trained and to adults hiding damaging conduct. The story questions the authority of headmasters and the old ideal of the strong, emotionless male leader. Annie also faces male bosses who limit her role before her judgment is proved right.
60%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Gone is a fictional drama inspired by real cases and a true crime book. No identity-related change to an established character or real public figure is reported.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No reliable anti-woke backlash, DEI complaint, or race or gender-swap dispute appears in the coverage reviewed. Public comments focus on pacing, acting, and the ending.

Creator track record context
The supplied creator context gives George Kay a score of 13/100 and describes his work as mainly crime drama. Richard Laxton has a cached score of 6/100 with no recorded political activism. The cached producer scores range from 13 to 19 and show no high-confidence identity-first public record. The title's gender and class themes give this factor mild support.
